Attorney

Joe Easter, Esq.

Since 2003, my sole focus has been to help people who’ve been injured on the job, injured because of negligent drivers and/or other personal injuries. I don’t dabble with bankruptcies or traffic tickets or anything else that isn’t directly related to injury cases.* I am strictly an injury attorney who is ready to fight on your behalf.

I worked on the other side of the table, so to speak, before I went to law school. I saw how people were treated by several insurance companies and big corporations. My observation was that more times than not, the insurance companies thought everyone was a liar and wasn’t really hurt (no matter what proof you showed). And the big corporations? They don’t really care what excuses you have (i.e. death or dismemberment), they want their mortgage/lease/you-name-it payment.

Just because you were seriously injured doesn’t mean the bills will stop coming in. In fact, it is usually the exact opposite. And with more and more people texting and driving than ever, the cases are only getting more severe. The human body wasn’t designed to withstand impacts from 5,000+ pound vehicles and 80,000 pound tractor trailers.

I have dedicated my career to helping those that are injured AND to make the roadways a safer place. With my expertise, I will fight to make sure you are taken care of.

*I do help indigent clients through the Legal Services of Southern Missouri periodically on cases that are sometimes not related to injury cases.

Attorney

Cheryl P. Hom, Esq.

Now a trial lawyer for the last several years, I worked on the fringes of the legal profession prior to that for over a decade in roles such as a paralegal, human resources director, and contracts specialist, but I didn’t fully take the plunge into a law career until later in life. Although spending three years away from my family to study law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law was a difficult decision, it was the absolute best choice I could have made. Besides fulfilling my lifelong ambition of becoming an attorney, it also gave me a new energy and sense of personal and professional purpose.

Though I have known Joe for many years, I first came to Easter Law Firm  2015. I came to know our cases, our clients, and the team. I came to understand the deep passion for justice on which the firm was founded and operates. While in law school I had the privilege of competing on the UMKC Law mock trial team in national competitions, and was fortunate enough to participate in the three-week Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming. Both experiences intensified my academic focus on trial advocacy and further cemented my litigation career path. Upon graduating, I had zero doubt as to where I would begin my law practice.

Having been on the opposite side of the table in workers’ compensation cases, I bring a strong understanding of the tough odds facing individuals who are taking on insurance companies and corporations. I am humbled each day by the strength of those who are facing serious injuries and life-long difficulties as a result of another’s poor decisions. I am here to bring my experience and energy to focus on the fight for the rights of the aggrieved.

Office Manager

Julie Finley

As Office Manager for Easter Law Firm, experience, drive and work ethic are essential to the function of the job. My last decade as office manager – coupled with my 15 years prior experience with technical writing, title research and multiple tasks in the area of support staff prepared me well for the challenges of this position.

I am responsible for past, present and future office processes and procedures to ensure a client friendly environment, effective case processing and efficient office procedures. From the initial consultation intake, to gathering and dispersing information during the case as well as archiving the data after the case is closed, it is my charge to ensure that all information is handled in the utmost professional manner. I am also responsible for many of the daily functions to keep the office running effectively and efficiently. Scheduling appointments, daily accounting, and supervision of the support staff are only a few of my duties. Reviewing, evaluating and recommending proposals from vendors is also included among my responsibilities.

Paralegal

Diana Kelly

Legal Assistant

Meg Petersen

Though I only came to Easter Law Firm in 2022, I have been given ample opportunities for gaining knowledge and skills in the legal field in my role as Legal Assistant. I am currently a senior at Missouri State University, where I am majoring in communication. I enjoy using the knowledge and skills gained through my education to help the law firm connect with its clients and the community.

In my role, I provide a warm and welcoming experience to incoming clients by greeting them in a friendly manner, answering their questions, and making them feel comfortable in the law firm. I communicate important information to clients in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing. I also answer client questions and address their concerns in a timely and professional manner. I prepare and draft legal correspondence, such as letters, memos, and requests. Alongside my fellow employees, I maintain and organize our firm’s complex file structure. I manage the law firm’s Instagram account. This includes creating and scheduling posts that are informative, engaging, and visually appealing.
